Anyone who has ever used bath salts will attest to the fact that they are a great addition to any relaxing evening in the bathtub.

Bath salts are made in all sorts of varieties and can be found in all types of stores, whether it is a specialty shop, department store, or online. You can even make your own!

Benefits of Bath Salts

Most people like bath salts because they provide a wonderful scent which helps you relax in the bathtub. Once you pour yourself a nice hot bath and add these salts all your stress will be washed away. There are many different scents so it can be fun to experiment with what you like best.

There are other reasons other than the amazing aromas provided that people like to use bath salts. One other reason is you don't have to worry about the danger of a fire like you do when burning candles. In addition you don't have to worry about the messes that dripping wax can create. Many people also don't like air fresheners because they are too powerful and strong. However, the subtle scent of aromatic bath salts brings a gentle scent throughout the bathroom.

Making your own Bath Salts

As mentioned above you are able to make your own bath salts. The main benefit of doing this is that it is less expensive than purchasing them in the store. You can give them away as gifts or keep them for yourself at home. You won't need many ingredients to get started. All you need is salt, fragrance and baking soda. You can use any kind of salt that you want but the three best types of salts are Epson Salt, Sea Salt and Rock Salt. These are coarser salts which will work better. You can use scented oils or herbs for your fragrance.

In order to start you need to layer fresh herbs and salt in a glass jar. Cover this with plastic wrap and leave the mixture sit for two or three weeks. This allows the salt to absorb all the fragrance from the herbs. Then you remove the herbs and poor the salt into your bath water. If you want to make your water softer then all you have to do is add baking soda to the mixture.

Once you have your salts all ready to go you simply add the salt and soda mixture (soda optional) to the tub while the water is running. If you want to add scented oil you do this right before you step in. Only add two or three drops because having too much oil can lead to skin irritations.

Once you have tried using aromatic bath salts you will never want to take a bath without them ever again. It will help to relax your mind and body and make your bathroom smell amazing. Be sure to use your salts within two years, otherwise your salts will lose their smell.
